Why Use a Cable Loom?
Imagine for a minute if, instead of being bound together into a cable loom, the wires in your car were all independent and running about separately to each other. The safety risks are immediately evident. Loose wires and cables bring risks that are eliminated by using a cable loom. This is true, not just in the context of a car, but in the telecommunications, construction, medical and military fields. Nowhere is it a good idea to have loose electrical wires lying about. For this reason, car manufacturers will use a cable loom, or several of them, to bind several wires together into a single harness. This has several advantages.
A Cable Loom is Safer
Putting all the wires into one harness means that they can be better protected from risks such as water and electro magnetic interference. By encapsulating the wires and components, through using methods such as overmoulding, the cable loom is shielded by a protective layer. Only having one harness to install also makes the installation process simpler and easier to standardise and carry out safely as part of a custom cable assembly process.
