Encapsulation & Potting

What is Encapsulation and Potting

Potting is the immersion of a component into a liquid resin until all components are covered. The compound is then cured into a solid mass. When the potting compound is dried and hardened all components are encased.
This protects the electrical components from humidity, dust, vibrations and shock. It also enhances electrical insulation, flame retardation and assembly robustness during transportation and installation.

These terminations are protected from shock, vibration, heat, conductivity, moisture, chemicals, and visual inspection

Encapsulation involves placing your assembly or component within the CNC machined cavity of a mould tool.
The tool is then filled with a casting resin or polyurethane until set. The product is then permanently encased within the casting.
Designing a custom encapsulation casting has the advantage to design unique shapes/profiles added strain relief and a company logo or part number if desired.

3D CAD Design

3D CAD models can be produced at design stage to optimize your concepts and achieve your desired product.
Turn your sketches or design concepts into a reality.

Since potting/encapsulation can enclose an entire electronic assembly, the casting creates a barrier against the elements and resistance to shock and vibration

Benefits of Potting and Encapsulation

  • Non-corrosive
  • Resists moisture, vibration and temperature extremes
  • Enhances electrical insulation
  • Flame retardant Resins available
